At Jeff Kincaid Insurance, we are honored to celebrate one of our team members, Walt Bagwell, whose dedication to Marion goes far beyond his professional work. Walt is a tireless volunteer, a community leader, and a local business owner whose energy, experience, and heart have left a lasting mark on our town. In recognition of his contributions, the Marion Business Association has nominated Walt as a 2025 Main Street Champion—a well-deserved accolade for someone who truly embodies the spirit of service.
Walt has been a driving force behind numerous local organizations and initiatives. He currently serves on the Marion Business Association Board of Directors, including past roles as president and chairman of the board, and contributes to the Economic Vitality Committee. He is always present at community events, helping vendors set up for festivals or even emceeing the Marion Livermush Festival with his signature humor and positivity.
Beyond the Main Street program, Walt has held leadership positions in several civic organizations, including the Rotary Club of Marion, the Marion Civitan Club, and the McDowell Chamber of Commerce. He has been recognized for his service with awards such as Rotarian of the Year, the Service Above Self Award, and the Nationwide Insurance District Service Award, and continues to shape the community through his work with the McDowell Technical Community College Foundation Board of Directors, where he currently serves as chairman.
Walt’s love for Marion is personal and deeply rooted. In his own words:
“I like the small-town feel of Marion. I like connecting with the residents. I’m not a fast-paced, busy person. I like a slower pace here. I like the walkability. There’s something I appreciate about walking down Main Street and enjoying the friendly atmosphere while I run errands.”
His vision for Marion is evident in both big and small ways. Walt recalls some of the projects he has had a hand in:
“I see good things that have happened that I’ve had a hand in, such as the growth we’ve seen downtown with new businesses and festivals. I always thought it would be fun to have a Bigfoot photo spot downtown where people could take photos and tag Marion, and now it’s there.”
Walt’s commitment is not just about events or projects—it’s about people.
“If I had to identify one thing that makes Marion so special, it’s the people that I love,” he says.
Having owned and operated his own business in Marion for over 30 years, Walt brings invaluable insight, experience, and dedication to every volunteer effort. His thoughtful guidance during tough decisions has helped ensure the downtown area thrives while maintaining the town’s charm. From early morning setups to long committee meetings, Walt freely gives his time, talent, and energy to make Marion a better place.
Walt Bagwell is a shining example of what community service truly means. At Jeff Kincaid Insurance, we are proud to have Walt on our team and to celebrate his contributions to Marion. His tireless work ensures that our Main Street, our town, and our people continue to flourish, and we are honored to recognize him as a true Main Street Champion.
